Apple® iPhone® - Turn Notifications On / Off

Note Notes:

  • Since notifications pushed to your device are carried over cellular data, you may see a small amount of cellular data usage even while connected to Wi-Fi.
  • If you tap a notification on your connected Apple Watch, any subsequent data usage may be carried over the VZW cellular network.
  • For audio notifications, refer to Manage audio alerts.
  • The steps below apply to the following models:
    • iPhone X / XS / XS Max / XR
    • iPhone 8 / 8 Plus
    • iPhone 7 / 7 Plus
    • iPhone SE
    • iPhone 6 / 6 Plus / 6s / 6s Plus
    • iPhone 5s

Caution Turning on notifications may impact battery life.

  1. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings Settings icon Notifications.
  2. From the 'Notification Style' section, tap an app.
  3. Tap the applicable switch(es) to turn on Switch On or off Switch Off:
    Note Depending on the app selected, the options may vary.
    • Allow Notifications
    • Sounds
    • Badge App Icon
    • Show on Lock Screen
    • Show in History
    • Show in Banners
      Note For most apps, you can choose whether you want the banner to be 'Persistent' or 'Temporary.'
  4. Tap Back icon Notifications (upper-left).
  5. From the Government Alerts section, tap the switch(es) to turn the following on or off:
    • AMBER Alerts
    • Emergency Alerts
